Maldon: A family home caught fire brought on by a charging vaporizer
According to the fire department, an electronic vape that was left charging unattended started a fire that destroyed a family’s home.
On Tuesday at 13:40 GMT, five firefighters were dispatched to a residence on Jersey Road in Maldon, Essex.
Before the fire reached the roof, a bedroom on the first level was “engulfed in flames,” according to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
The house will be uninhabitable “for some time,” according to a spokeswoman.
“This fire has caused severe damage to the house and the inhabitants will not be able to live there for some time,” stated watch manager Martin Cable of the Maldon Fire Station.
A vape that was plugged into a charger and left unattended on the bed in the bedroom is where the fire started “The mattress and linens caught fire when the vape overheated. The bedroom then caught fire after that.”
