Training a dog to detect e-cigarettes in Florida schools
A young puppy being trained by the sheriff’s office in Florida is being trained to identify drugs, nicotine, and vape pens in nearby schools.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) declared on social media that it has acquired K9 Samba, a one and a half-year-old Labrador Retriever, as a donation to aid in the fight against the vaping pandemic in schools.
Samba’s training coincides with an increase in vape pen use.
The Lake County School Board and the LCSO agree that a fresh strategy for identifying and discouraging kids is required.
Throughout the county, Samba will be used to assist in discouraging pupils from bringing objects onto campus.
After putting in 160 hours of training, she will be the second K9 deployed to the Lake County school resource unit.
